Frequently Asked Questions

Can you give me some examples of what services a Notary Public can provide for me?

  • We can certify that a client's signature does belong to him or her. This is normally necessary when documents need to be sent overseas.
  • As notaries we are able to certify or warrant the truth of documents brought before us. These documents can often be copies of originals or documents that have been translated from another language.
  • Authenticating the execution of documents such as for example when adopting a child overseas.
  • We can vouch for the identity of clients and their witnesses.
  • A notary is able to administer an oath, take a declaration or swear an affidavit.
  • Protesting or noting a Bill of Exchange.

What will it cost me to instruct a Notary Public?

  • The minimum fee is NZ$50 plus Goods and Services Tax and the hourly charge rate is NZ$250 plus Goods and Services Tax with disbursements (payments we make) being extra.
  • Time and expense can be saved if you supply, before any consultation, the originals or exact photocopies of:
    • All documents to be notarised
    • All correspondence or forms of instructions that relate to the service that is to be performed
    • Identification evidence (see below)
  • Documents to be notarised should not be bound as they may have to be rebound with a covering Notarial Certificate.
